France’s vigor and leadership in foreign policy is striking. She led the arguments for the NATO assisted removal of Muammar Gaddafi in Libya while the United States “led from behind”. She has called for Western air strikes to remove President Assad in Syria. Essentially single-handedly, she used French troops against Islamist rebels in Mali. Most recently, her demand for stronger requirements of Iran derailed a tentative agreement over how to control its apparent push for nuclear weapons. Ambassador Delattre will now address new opportunities for the French-American and transatlantic partnerships. This promises to be a most interesting evening.
Ambassador Delattre’s diplomatic assignments have included a posting to Bonn working on matters pertaining to the impact of Germany’s reunification; two years with the Strategic, Security and Disarmament Department of the French Foreign Ministry; service as a member of the Foreign Minister’s Cabinet; responsibility for European and transatlantic defense and security matters while managing the Bosnian crisis; and Deputy Director of the Foreign Minister’s Office. Posting as Press and Communications Director at the French Embassy in Washington, Consul General in New York, and Ambassadorship of France to Canada preceded his appointment as Ambassador of France to the United States.
This program will air on our partner stations from January 5 - January 18, 2014
