“Global Challenges and the American Role in the World”
As the United States deliberates over the state of the world, its role in it, and an appropriate grand strategy, we seek the wisdom of deeply experienced and respected authorities.
General Michael Hayden is one of the nation’s most respected public servants. His career culminated in a series of extraordinary responsibilities in the intelligence field: commander of the Air Intelligence Agency charged with defending and exploiting the information domain, Director of the National Security Agency, Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence, and Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. Earlier, he was Director of the Joint Command and Control Warfare Center; he served in senior staff positions at the Pentagon, in the U.S. European Command, and at the National Security Council; and he was deputy chief of staff for the United Nations Command and U.S. Forces Korea.
In his remarkable career, he has been immersed in the critical challenges of our time: global change, the war on terrorism, unsettling migration, and the growing cyber challenge. He is now a Principal at the Chertoff Group, has received numerous high honors, serves on the Board of Directors at Motorola Solutions, is a Distinguished Visiting Professor at George Mason University, and co-chairs the Bi-Partisan Policy Center’s Electric Grid Cyber Security Initiative. His memoir, Playing to the Edge: American Intelligence in the Age of Terror, is a New York Times best seller.
It is an honor and great pleasure to welcome General Michael Hayden to the Council.
