COUNTERING RUSSIAN DISINFORMATION AND PROPAGANDA

The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation spread a fake that since the beginning of the special military operation the people’s militia of the Luhansk People’s Republic has taken under control 40 towns and settlements of the Luhansk region.

It also stated that “primary objective for LPRs military is liberation of the whole territory of the republic”.

The Head of civil-military administration of the Luhansk region Serhii Gaidai denied the fake stating that after more than three weeks of fierce fighting and heavy casualties occupants took under partial control cities of Rubizhne and Popasna only. He confidently added that aggressors will be driven out of these cities soon.

Russia mined sea routes from the port of Odesa to the Strait of Bosphorus and blamed Ukraine for it.

On March 18, 2022, captain of Russian sea port of Sochi Viacheslav Rumiantsev sent the letter of warning to the foreign sea companies “on the threat of detonation on sea mines laid by Ukrainian Navy in the vicinity of Ukraine’s seaports of Odesa, Ochakiv, Chornomorsk and Yuzhnyi”.

It also stated that “due to bad weather conditions some anchor mines were torn off and are drifting.

It is a false flag operation organized by Russia in order to put the whole responsibility on Ukraine. Its aim is to disrupt maritime traffic of commercial ships in the Black Sea and undermine Ukraine’s economy.

It is worth to note that during the last three weeks the task group of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation repeatedly approached to the Ukraine’s sea coast creating the appearance of preparing an amphibious assault. This task group included minesweepers which could be used for mining of the abovementioned sea areas.

At his daily briefing the spokesman of the Russian Ministry of Defence Major General Igor Konashenkov voiced a new fake informing on “provocation” allegedly organized by Ukrainian special services.

He stated that “officers of the Security Service of Ukraine planted explosives in one of the hospitals in the city of Dnipro to accuse Russian military of shelling civilian infrastructure”.

It is an absurd statement. The truth is that Russian special services themselves often used such dirty methods for the criminal purposes of the Russian political leadership.

In particular, the bombings of residential buildings in the cities of Moscow, Buinaksk and Volgodonsk in September 1999 gave Russia a pretext for the Second Chechen war. It is proved that these bombings were organized by the Russia’s Federal Security Service.
Russian propaganda disseminates a fake message on the situation in the city of Mariupol.

By using social networks, Russian bots spread fake information that “citizens of Mariupol don’t need to leave the city and go to the city of Zaporizhzhia”.

The aim of this cynical provocation is to disrupt the people’s evacuation from the site of a humanitarian disaster created by Russian military. Thus, it will be another reason for the Russian propaganda to accuse the Ukrainian authorities of not caring for their own population.
